Haram Zone Travel arranges family Umrah packages from the UK that include return flights, Umrah visa or travel authorisation processing, family rooms in Makkah and Madinah, and transfers between the airport, your hotels and the two cities. We plan your trip around UK school holidays, price children separately from adults, and choose hotels by walking distance to the Haram, because with young children or older parents the walk matters more than the star rating.
This page sets out our 2026/27 family packages, what is and isn’t included, how children are priced, which documents each family member needs, and how booking works.

Don’t see your dates or hotel? Every package can be changed. Send us your dates, airport and the ages of everyone travelling and we’ll price it.
3 star family Umrah
Suits families on a tighter budget who will spend most of the day in the Haram and use the hotel mainly to sleep. 3-star hotels are usually further from the mosque, sometimes with a shuttle. With children under about seven, check the walking distance in your quote carefully: a 10-minute walk for an adult can take twice as long with a tired child, five times a day.
4 star family Umrah
The tier most families choose. Hotels are closer to the Haram, lifts are better, and breakfast is normally included. Being able to take children back to the room between prayers, rather than staying out from Dhuhr to Isha, makes the whole trip calmer.
5 star family Umrah
Hotels at or very close to the Haram gates, so you can be in the mosque within minutes. Worth considering if you’re travelling with grandparents, a baby, or anyone who can’t walk far. These rooms sell first in school holidays, so ask early.
What’s Included in a Family Umrah Package
Every package lists its exact inclusions in your quote. A standard all-inclusive family Umrah package from the UK includes:
- Return flights from your chosen UK airport, with seats for children aged 2 and over
- Umrah visa or Saudi travel authorisation processing for every family member
- Hotel accommodation in Makkah and Madinah, in the room type you choose
- Airport transfers in Saudi Arabia and transport between Makkah and Madinah
- Breakfast at the hotel where stated
- Help booking Umrah and Rawdah permits on the Nusuk app
- Ziyarat tours of historic sites in Makkah and Madinah, on request
- A UK contact before you travel and a support number while you’re in Saudi Arabia
Many families ask for Ziyarat so the children see places like Mount Uhud and Quba Mosque. Ziyarat is added on request, so mention it when you ask for your quote.
What’s not included
Knowing this before you pay avoids surprises at the airport or hotel:
- Travel insurance. We strongly recommend a policy that covers every family member, including any existing medical conditions
- Meningococcal ACWY vaccinations, which you arrange with your GP or a travel clinic
- Meals not listed in your board basis
- Extra baggage beyond the airline allowance, and seats for children under 2
- Wheelchair or electric cart hire inside the Haram
- Personal spending, laundry and phone roaming
- Ihram clothing
How Much Does a Family Umrah Package Cost?
A family Umrah package from the UK is priced per person, and the total for a family depends mainly on when you travel, how close the hotel is to the Haram, and how many people share each room. School holidays and hotels near the mosque cost more; outside school holidays, with a quad room and a 3-star hotel, the per-person price is at its lowest.
What changes the price | Why |
Travel dates | Christmas, February half-term (Ramadan in 2027) and Easter are the most expensive weeks for UK families. Early December and term-time weeks are cheaper. |
Distance to the Haram | Hotels within a few minutes’ walk cost more than those 10–15 minutes away. |
Room sharing | A quad room shared by four is cheaper per person than a double. Families of four or five usually get the best value from a quad. |
Number of nights | 7 nights is cheapest; 10 and 14 nights add hotel costs but lower the cost per night. |
Departure airport | London usually has the most flight choice. Regional airports can cost more or need a connection. |
Ages of your children | See below. |
How children are priced
- Infants under 2: usually travel on a parent’s lap, so they pay a small infant fare rather than a full seat, and don’t need their own hotel bed. They still need a passport and their own visa or travel authorization.
- Children aged 2 to 11: need their own flight seat. If they share your room, the price is lower than an adult’s.
- Children aged 12 and over: most hotels and airlines price them as adults.
Paying for your family’s Umrah
You secure the booking with a deposit and pay the balance before departure. If you’d rather spread the cost, we offer monthly umrah instalment plans. Booking conditions, including cancellation terms, come with your quote so you can read them before paying.
When Is the Best Time for a Family Umrah from the UK?
For most families the answer is a school holiday, and the right one depends on your budget and how your children cope with heat and crowds. October half-term and early December are the best balance of milder weather and price. Christmas and Easter are popular but busier. Summer is the cheapest long break but very hot in Makkah.
Holiday (2026/27) | Approx. dates | What to expect |
October half-term 2026 | Week of 26 October 2026 | Hot but easing. Good value and only one week, so a 7-night package fits. |
Christmas 2026 | Around 19 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 | Pleasant weather. One of the busiest and most expensive periods for UK families. Book early. |
February half-term 2027 | Mid-February 2027 | Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February (subject to moon sighting), so this week will likely fall in Ramadan. Ramadan prices and crowds. |
Easter 2027 | Late March to mid-April 2027 | Warm, two weeks long, good for a 10 or 14-night trip. |
Summer 2027 | Late July to early September 2027 | Very hot in Makkah. Choose a hotel close to the Haram and plan for night-time worship. |
School holiday dates vary by council and Scottish schools follow a different calendar. Check your own school’s dates before booking.
Can we go in term time? You can and prices are lower, but in England schools can only authorise absence in exceptional circumstances. Unauthorised absence can lead to a fine of £80 per parent, per child, rising to £160 if not paid within 21 days GOV.UK. Speak to your school before you book.
Umrah also pauses for international pilgrims for several weeks around the Hajj season. The dates are set by the Saudi authorities each year, so May half-term 2027 may not be possible.
Umrah with Children: What Parents Ask Us
Can children perform Umrah?
Yes. Children of any age can come on Umrah and enter the Haram with their parents. Older children can perform the full rites, and parents can carry younger ones through tawaf and sa’i. Most scholars hold that a child’s Umrah is valid and rewarded, and that it doesn’t replace the Umrah due once they reach adulthood. If this matters to your family, ask your local imam.
Is there a minimum age for Umrah?
There’s currently no minimum age set for children travelling with their parents. A minimum age of five applied during 2022 and was later lifted. Permit rules for children on the Nusuk app can change, so we check the current position for every booking.
Ihram for children
Boys wear the two white ihram cloths like adult men, and girls wear normal modest clothing. For toddlers, many parents simply keep them in comfortable clothes and make the intention on their behalf. Bring spares: ihram cloths slip, and young children get hot quickly.
Prams, carriers and staying together in the Haram
- A lightweight baby carrier is easier than a pram in crowds. Prams may be restricted in some parts of the Haram and at busy times.
- Choose a meeting point you all know, such as a numbered gate (for example, King Fahd Gate, number 79), and agree to it before you go in each time.
- Put a wristband or card on each young child with your name, hotel and UK and Saudi phone numbers.
- Tawaf is usually calmer late at night and after Fajr than after Asr or Maghrib.
Heat and health
Makkah is hot for most of the year. Keep children in the shade between late morning and mid-afternoon, give them water often (Zamzam is free throughout the Haram), and pack oral rehydration sachets and any regular medicines in hand luggage.
Umrah with Elderly Parents and Grandparents
Many of our family bookings include a grandparent. A few choices make the biggest difference:
- Pick the hotel by distance first. For a parent who walks slowly, a 4 or 5-star hotel close to the Haram is worth more than extra nights further away.
- Ask for a lower floor or a room near the lifts. Hotel lifts queue heavily just before and after each prayer.
- Plan on using a wheelchair for tawaf and sa’i. Wheelchairs and electric carts are available at Masjid al-Haram. Many families bring a lightweight folding wheelchair from home.
- Choose a longer stay with rest days rather than a packed 7 nights.
- Medicines in hand luggage, with a copy of the prescription.
Tell us about mobility or health needs when you enquire, and we’ll suggest hotels, transfers and flight times that work for them.
Family Umrah Visa and Documents from the UK
British citizens can currently perform Umrah outside the Hajj season using an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or an electronic visa waiver, according to GOV.UK Foreign Travel Advice (updated 20 September 2026). Each family member, including babies, needs their own. Visa and travel authorisation decisions are made by the Saudi authorities, and no travel company can guarantee them.
We process the visa or ETA for everyone in your booking. What we need from you:
Document | Who needs it | Notes |
Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date you arrive | Everyone, including infants | GOV.UK entry requirement |
Passport-style photo | Everyone | We’ll tell you the format |
Meningococcal ACWY vaccination certificate | Everyone aged 1 year and over | Must be given at least 10 days before arrival. A conjugate vaccine certificate is valid for up to 5 years (NaTHNaC). Book with your GP or a travel clinic early. |
Consent letter from anyone else with parental responsibility | A parent travelling with children without the other parent | Required under UK law; GOV.UK advises carrying it, with their contact details |
Birth certificate (and marriage or divorce certificate if names differ) | Parents whose surname is different from their child’s | Helps prove the relationship at UK and Saudi borders |
Umrah permit on the Nusuk app | Everyone performing Umrah | We help you book it |
Family members on non-British passports: if anyone in your family travels on another passport, the visa route may be different. Tell us everyone’s nationality when you enquire and we’ll check it before you pay.
For the latest official rules, check GOV.UK: Saudi Arabia entry requirements and NaTHNaC: Hajj and Umrah.
Flights from UK Airports
We book family Umrah flights from London Heathrow and Gatwick, which have the widest choice of direct flights to Jeddah and Madinah, and from Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. Midlands families can see departure options on our Umrah packages from Birmingham page.
Two things worth asking about with children:
- Routing. Flying into Madinah first and leaving from Jeddah (or the reverse) cuts out one long road journey. If you start in Madinah, you’ll enter ihram at the miqat on the drive to Makkah, so pack the ihram in your hand luggage.
- Seats and bassinets. We request seats together for the whole family. Infant bassinets and seat allocation depend on the airline and aren’t guaranteed, so ask early.
Family Hotels in Makkah and Madinah
Most families take a quad room (four beds) or a triple with an extra bed for a child, which keeps everyone together and brings the per-person price down. Larger families can request two connecting or adjacent rooms. Hotels confirm these on request rather than at booking, so we can’t guarantee them, but we ask for every family.
Your quote shows each hotel’s name and approximate walking distance to the Haram in Makkah and Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah, so you can compare like for like. Madinah hotels are usually closer to the mosque than Makkah hotels at the same price, which makes Madinah the easier half of the trip for young children.
How Booking Your Family Umrah Package Works
- Send an enquiry. Tell us your dates, departure airport, everyone’s ages and nationalities, and your preferred hotel standard.
- Get a written quote. It names the hotels, distances, flights, room types and the total for your family.
- Pay a deposit to hold flights and hotels.
- Send documents. Passports, photos and vaccination certificates, so we can process visas or ETAs.
- Pay the balance by the date in your booking conditions, or through your instalment plan.
- Receive your travel pack with e-tickets, hotel vouchers, transfer details and support contacts.
Booking for a Larger Family or Travelling with Relatives
If you’re travelling with cousins, in-laws or friends’ families as one larger party, our group Umrah packages are built for that, with rooms allocated together and shared transport. If you’re travelling as a couple or on your own, you’ll find all our Umrah packages for 2026/27 in one place.
Why Families Book with Haram Zone Travel
Haram Zone Travel is a UK-based Hajj and Umrah travel company in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire
- ATOL protected. Flight-inclusive packages are protected under ATOL number. You can check it on the Civil Aviation Authority’s ATOL checker.
- Everything in writing. Hotel names, walking distances, flights and the total price are in your quote before you pay anything.
- Child pricing shown upfront, not left to a phone call.
- UK support before you travel, and a contact number while you’re in Saudi Arabia.
Book Your Family Umrah While Your Dates Are Still Available
Family Umrah rooms go first. Quad rooms and connecting rooms near the Haram are limited in every hotel, and the families who book early get them. Leave it late and you’ll usually face one of three choices: a hotel further from the mosque, a higher price, or splitting the family across two rooms.
The next school holidays are close:
- October half-term (week of 26 October 2026): every family member needs the meningitis ACWY vaccine at least 10 days before arrival. If you want to travel this half-term, book the jab and send your enquiry this week.
- Christmas 2026: this is one of the busiest weeks of the year for UK families. 4-star and 5-star family rooms close to the Haram are already being requested.
- February half-term 2027: this is likely to fall in Ramadan, so expect Ramadan demand and prices.
You don’t have to pay in full to secure your dates. A deposit holds your flights and hotels, and you can pay the balance before you travel or in monthly instalments.
Send us your dates, departure airport and everyone’s ages. We’ll reply with a written quote naming your hotels, their walking distance from the Haram and the total price for your family. There’s no obligation, but we can’t hold rooms for you until you book.
