Customize Your Perfect Package

Summer holidays Umrah packages let UK families and working pilgrims perform Umrah during the long school break, when children are off and annual leave is easier to arrange. Haram Zone Travel puts together summer Umrah packages for June, July and August, with return flights from the UK, hotels in Makkah and Madinah, transfers and visa guidance, planned around your dates and your budget.

Summer in Saudi Arabia is very hot, so a good summer package is planned differently from a winter one. This page explains when Umrah reopens after Hajj in 2027, how June, July and August compare, what our packages include and leave out, what drives the price and how booking works.

Can you perform Umrah in summer 2027?

Yes, summer 2027 is expected to be open for Umrah, but not the weeks around Hajj. Saudi Arabia stops issuing Umrah visas to overseas pilgrims before the Hajj season and starts again shortly after it ends.

For the current 1448 AH season, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has set 9 March 2027 as the last date for issuing Umrah visas, 23 March 2027 as the last date for Umrah pilgrims to enter the Kingdom, and 7 April 2027 as the final departure date. Hajj 1448 is then expected to run from around 14 to 19 May 2027, with exact dates confirmed by moon sighting.

Last year the new season opened very soon after Hajj: Umrah visas and arrivals began on 31 May 2026, and Umrah permits through Nusuk opened on 1 June 2026. If the ministry follows the same pattern, the 1449 AH season would open in late May 2027, which puts June, July and August 2027 inside the normal Umrah window.

If you are aiming for the first days of June, we check the official opening date with you before you commit to any non-refundable flights.

June, July or August: which summer month suits you?

The right month usually comes down to two things: when your children’s school breaks up, and how much heat you are comfortable with. School term dates are set locally, so check with your school or council before you book.

Month (2027)

UK school holidays (typical)

Makkah weather (typical)

Worth knowing

June

Most schools in England and Wales are still in term. Many Scottish schools break up around the last day of June

Highs around 42°C, lows around 28°C

Early in the new Umrah season. Islamic New Year (1 Muharram 1449) is expected in early June

July

Scotland and Northern Ireland are off from around 1 July. England and Wales usually break up around 22 to 23 July

Highs around 41°C, lows around 28°C

Fares from UK airports tend to rise once English and Welsh schools break up

August

England and Wales off all month. Most Scottish schools go back in mid-August

Highs around 40°C, lows around 28°C

The main window for families from England, so family rooms and good-value flights go first

June Umrah

June Umrah suits pilgrims who are not tied to the English school calendar: university students after exams, adults travelling without children, retired parents, and Scottish families whose holidays start at the end of the month. Umrah packages are often easier to price than August ones because fewer UK families are travelling, although it is also the hottest month of the three.

July Umrah

Umrah in July works well for Scottish and Northern Irish families, who can travel in early or mid-July before the English break pushes up demand. Umrah in July weather is hot and dry, so most pilgrims perform Tawaf and Sa’i at night or before Fajr. A July Umrah package from the UK that departs before the third week of the month often gives better choice of hotels and flights.

August Umrah

Umrah in August is the most popular option for families in England and Wales, because the whole month falls inside the school break. August Umrah packages are in high demand, so it helps to enquire early, especially if you need a family room close to the Haram. For elderly parents or very young children, a 5-star August Umrah package with a hotel near Masjid al-Haram can make the heat much easier to manage.

What is the weather like for Umrah in July and August?

Hot and dry. In Makkah, average daytime highs sit around 40 to 41°C in July and August, and night-time lows stay around 28°C. Madinah is similarly hot. Summer rain is rare. The heat is manageable if you plan your rituals for the cooler hours and rest in the middle of the day.

The Saudi Ministry of Health advises visitors in hot weather to carry an umbrella, drink fluids regularly, take rest breaks between rituals and stay out of direct sun between 11am and 3pm where possible. The ministry also runs the 937 health line for medical questions.

How we plan a summer Umrah around the heat

  •     Timing your Umrah. Where flight times allow, we arrange your arrival so you can perform Umrah after sunset or in the early hours, when the marble and the air have cooled.
  •     Hotel distance matters more in summer. An 800-metre walk in January is very different at 2pm in August. For elderly travellers and young children we recommend hotels with a short walk to the Haram.
  •     Transport between cities. Road or rail transfers between Makkah and Madinah are planned for the cooler part of the day where possible.
  •     What to pack. Light, breathable clothing, an umbrella, comfortable sandals, a refillable bottle and unscented sun cream (scented products are not permitted while in ihram).
  •     Health checks. If you or a relative has a heart, kidney or breathing condition, speak to your GP before you travel and make sure your travel insurance covers it.

What’s included in our summer Umrah packages

Every summer Umrah package from Haram Zone Travel is quoted individually, so you can see exactly what you are paying for. A standard package includes:

  •     Return flights from your chosen UK airport, direct or one-stop depending on dates and airline schedules
  •     A hotel in Makkah and a hotel in Madinah, at the star rating and walking distance you choose
  •     Airport transfers and travel between Makkah and Madinah
  •     Guidance and support with your Saudi visa application
  •     Ziyarat to historic sites in Makkah and Madinah, if you ask for it
  •     Help from our UK team before you travel, and a contact while you are away

Packages are sold in nights rather than days. Most pilgrims choose 7, 12 or 15 nights, split between Makkah and Madinah. We can change the split, for example more nights in Madinah if you want a quieter second half of the trip.

What isn’t included

Unless your quote says otherwise, these are not part of the package:

  •     Meals, unless breakfast or board is shown on your quote
  •     Personal travel insurance (we strongly recommend it, including cover for pre-existing conditions)
  •     Vaccinations, GP letters and medication
  •     Extra baggage, seat selection and upgrades
  •     Personal spending, laundry, SIM cards and local taxis
  •     The Nusuk Umrah permit itself, which you book in the Nusuk app. We will show you how.

Summer Umrah for families during the school break

A summer school break Umrah trip is often the only chance for a whole family to go together. It works well with a bit of extra planning.

  •     Permits for children. Each person needs their own Umrah permit in Nusuk, and children aged 5 and over need their own permit.
  •     Rooms. Triple and quad rooms keep families together and bring the cost per person down.
  •     Night-time rituals. Children cope far better with Tawaf and Sa’i after Isha or before Fajr than in the afternoon.
  •     Staying together. Crowds are lighter in summer than in Ramadan, but the Haram is still busy. A wristband with your UK and Saudi phone numbers on each child is a simple safeguard.
  •     Elderly parents. Mobility help is available inside the Grand Mosque, including wheelchairs and carts. Tell us early so we can plan hotel distance around it.

If you would rather travel alongside other UK pilgrims, our group umrah packages bring families and individuals together on shared dates, with travel arranged as one group.

Flights from London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow

Most UK pilgrims fly into Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport, which is roughly one to one and a half hours by road from Makkah. Some prefer to fly into Madinah and start there. We quote from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and other UK airports, depending on which airlines fly on your dates.

Families in the South East can compare departures on our umrah packages from London page, and if you are in the North West, the umrah packages Manchester page covers flights from Manchester Airport.

Makkah first or Madinah first?

Both work. If you fly into Jeddah and go straight to Makkah, you enter ihram before the plane crosses the miqat, so you need to be ready on board. If you fly into Madinah first, you spend those days in Madinah and then enter ihram at the miqat of Dhul Hulayfah on the way to Makkah. In summer, starting in Madinah gives you a few days to adjust to the heat before Umrah.

Choosing your hotels in Makkah and Madinah

Hotel choice affects your summer Umrah more than any other decision, because it decides how far you walk in the heat five times a day.

Hotel level

Typical position

Who it suits in summer

3-star / economy

Further from the Haram, sometimes with a shuttle

Fit adults on a tight budget who are happy to walk at night

4-star

A moderate walk to the Haram

Families balancing comfort and cost

5-star

Closest to the Haram, including towers in the Abraj Al Bait (Clock Tower) complex in Makkah

Elderly parents, young children and anyone who wants to rest between prayers

Exact hotels and distances depend on availability for your dates. We name the hotel on your quote so you can check its location before you book.

Visas, Nusuk permits and documents for UK pilgrims

Most British passport holders can apply online for a Saudi tourist eVisa, which allows Umrah outside the Hajj period. You also need an Umrah permit, booked through the Nusuk app or website, before you can perform Umrah at Masjid al-Haram.

It helps to be clear about who does what. The Saudi authorities decide visa approval and issue Umrah permits. Haram Zone Travel guides you through the application, checks your documents and makes sure your flights and hotels match your visa and permit dates. We cannot guarantee a visa will be approved.

  •     Passport: valid for at least six months from your arrival date.
  •     Non-British passport holders living in the UK: your route depends on your nationality and UK residence status. Tell us your passport details and we will check the current options.
  •     Vaccinations: check NaTHNaC’s TravelHealthPro page for Saudi Arabia, including any meningococcal ACWY requirement for Umrah, at least eight weeks before you travel.
  •     Women travelling: women on the tourist eVisa are not currently required to travel with a mahram.

Rules can change between seasons. Always check the official Saudi eVisa portal, Nusuk and the UK government’s Saudi Arabia travel advice before you travel.

How much do summer Umrah packages cost?

The price of a summer Umrah package depends mostly on your travel dates, how close your hotel is to the Haram and your flights. Dates inside the English and Welsh school holidays, late July and all of August, usually cost more than June or early July.

Finding a cheap summer Umrah without cutting corners

Cheap summer Umrah packages are possible if you are flexible. Travelling in June or the first half of July is the biggest saving, which suits Scottish and Northern Irish families well. Sharing a quad room, accepting a one-stop flight and choosing a 4-star hotel a short walk away usually saves more than dropping to a distant hotel, which can cost you in taxis and tiredness. Enquiring early also helps, because the best-value family rooms for August are booked first.

How booking your summer Umrah works

  1.   Send us your details. Preferred dates, departure airport, number of travellers with ages, and the hotel level you have in mind.
  2.   Get your quote. We send flight and hotel options with what is included and what is not, so you can compare.
  3.   Check passports and visa route. We confirm which visa route applies to each traveller.
  4.   Confirm and pay your deposit.

Most Popular Questions

Yes, in the normal course of things. Saudi Arabia pauses Umrah visas before Hajj and reopens them shortly after. Hajj 1448 is expected in mid-May 2027, and last year the new season opened on 31 May. The official 1449 AH calendar had not been published at the time of writing, so we confirm dates before you book.

Very hot. Average daytime highs are around 40 to 41°C, with night-time lows around 28°C, and rain is rare. Most pilgrims perform Tawaf and Sa'i at night or before Fajr, carry an umbrella and rest indoors in the early afternoon.

Partly. June and early July are often good value because fewer UK families travel. Late July and August cost more because they fall in the English and Welsh school holidays. Sharing rooms and being flexible on flight days helps keep the price down.

It can be, with careful planning. Choose a hotel close to the Haram, do the rituals at night, keep everyone drinking water and rest in the afternoon. Anyone with a heart, kidney or breathing condition should speak to their GP before travelling.

Yes. Each pilgrim needs their own permit, and children aged 5 and over need one in their own name. Book permits for the whole family at the same time slot so you can perform Umrah together.

Most UK pilgrims choose 7, 12 or 15 nights. Seven nights suits a first Umrah with limited leave. Twelve to fifteen nights gives time to rest during the hottest hours and spend longer in Madinah.

As early as you can once your dates are fixed, especially for August. Family rooms near the Haram and good-value flights from UK airports are usually the first to go once English schools break up.

We quote from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and other UK airports. Whether a direct flight is available depends on airline schedules for your dates. Most flights land in Jeddah, with some routes to Madinah.
