Ramadan 2027 Calendar for Umrah

Ramadan 2027 is expected to run from about Monday 8 February to Monday 8 or Tuesday 9 March with Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March. Every date below can move by a day once the moon is sighted, so treat it as a planning guide.

In Islam the night comes before its day, so the 21st night of Ramadan is the evening of the 20th fast. If your priority is a particular odd night, arrive at least a day earlier in case Ramadan starts a day later than expected.

What is Umrah in Ramadan?

Umrah in Ramadan is the same Umrah performed at any other time of year: entering Ihram at the Miqat, Tawaf around the Ka’bah, Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and shaving or trimming the hair. What changes is the setting. You will usually be fasting, the Haram is at its fullest of the year outside Hajj, and the nights are taken up by Taraweeh and, in the last ten, Qiyam al-Layl.

Anyone with a valid visa that permits Umrah, a Nusuk Umrah permit and a confirmed booking can perform Umrah during Ramadan. There is no separate “Ramadan visa”.

The Reward and Benefits of Umrah in Ramadan

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) told a woman from the Ansar, “Perform Umrah in Ramadan, for it is equal to Hajj” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1863). This is why Ramadan is the most sought-after month for Umrah from the UK.

Scholars explain that the hadith speaks of reward, not obligation. Umrah in Ramadan does not replace the obligatory Hajj for someone who can afford it and is physically able. The other benefits people talk about are practical as much as spiritual:

  •     Praying Taraweeh behind the Imams of Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi.
  •     Breaking your fast in the Haram, where dates, water and Zamzam are shared at Maghrib.
  •     Seeking Laylat al-Qadr, described in the Qur’an as “better than a thousand months” (Surah al-Qadr 97:3), in the place where the Qur’an was revealed.
  •     Hearing the completion of the Qur’an (Khatm) in the final nights.

Best Time to Do Umrah in Ramadan: First, Middle or Last Ten Days?

There is no single best time. The reward of Umrah in Ramadan applies across the whole month. Choose what matters most to you: the last ten nights for Laylat al-Qadr and I’tikaf, the first ten days for calmer mosques and lower prices, or the middle ten as a balance of the two.

Last 10 Nights Ramadan Umrah

The last ten nights are when most people want to be in Makkah, because Laylat al-Qadr is sought in the odd nights. Expect the Haram, the roads and the hotel lifts to be at their busiest, with Qiyam prayers running into the early hours. Many travellers spend the first half of their trip in Madinah and move to Makkah for the final nights.

If you hope to sit I’tikaf in Masjid al-Haram or Masjid an-Nabawi, places are limited and need official registration through the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques. Registration has opened shortly before Ramadan in recent years. We can tell you when it opens, but we cannot guarantee a place.

Full Month Ramadan Umrah

A full month of Ramadan Umrah suits people who can take extended leave or are retired. You see Ramadan from its first Taraweeh to Eid prayer, and the cost per night is usually lower than a last-ten-nights package. Check that your entry date and length of stay fit the Umrah season rules below, and plan rest days, because a month of fasting and late nights is tiring.

Ramadan Umrah price: what changes the cost

The price of Umrah in Ramadan depends mostly on which ten days you choose and how far your hotel is from the Haram. A last-ten-nights package at a Haram-facing hotel can cost several times more than a first-Ashra package a short walk away. These are the main factors:

  1.   Which Ashra. Hotel rates rise through the month and peak in the last ten nights.
  2.   Distance to the Haram. In Ramadan you walk to the mosque for Taraweeh and often for Qiyam, so the closest hotels charge the most.
  3.   Fixed-date blocks. Many hotels near the Haram only sell the last ten nights as a set block.
  4.   Eid flights. Return flights on or just after Eid are among the most expensive of the year.
  5.   Room sharing. Quad rooms keep the per-person price down.
  6.   Meals. Hotel Suhoor and Iftar buffets add to the price.

Cheap Ramadan Umrah Packages: How to Keep the Cost Down

The cheapest way to do Umrah in Ramadan is to travel in the first ten days, choose a 3- or 4-star hotel ten to fifteen minutes on foot from the mosque, take a quad room and accept a one-stop flight. Booking early helps most for the last ten nights. Be wary of Ramadan Umrah deals that undercut everyone else without naming hotels; GOV.UK warns UK pilgrims about fraudulent Umrah offers.

A Day of Umrah During Ramadan

Your day in Ramadan follows the fast. Most people sleep after Fajr, rest in the afternoon, and spend the evening and night in the Haram. Knowing the rhythm helps you choose when to perform your Umrah.

Time

What happens

Tip

Before Fajr

Suhoor, then Fajr in the Haram

Hotel Suhoor fills up; eat early

Morning

Quieter; many people sleep

A good window for Umrah if you are rested

Afternoon

Hot, fasting, fewer people in the Mataf

Rest; avoid long walks in the sun

Maghrib

Iftar in or around the Haram

Arrive early: the mosque fills an hour or more before

Isha and Taraweeh

Busiest time of day

Pray where you can find space; upper floors are often easier

Late night (last ten)

Qiyam al-Layl and dua

Plan a nap in the evening

Many people perform Umrah straight after Iftar or Taraweeh, which makes those hours the most crowded in the Mataf. If you can, start your Umrah in the morning or late at night after Qiyam.

Ramadan Umrah with Family, Elderly Parents or Reduced Mobility

Families and older travellers can do Umrah during Ramadan comfortably with the right hotel and pace. The first ten days are usually the easier choice.

  •     Children and fasting: children who have not reached puberty are not required to fast. Keep water and snacks with you, and let them rest in the afternoon if they are staying up for Taraweeh.
  •     Night prayers with children: the women’s and family areas fill early. Agree a meeting point and put a note in each child’s pocket with the hotel’s name and a parent’s mobile.
  •     Elderly and unwell travellers: Islam excuses those for whom fasting would cause harm. Speak to your GP before traveling if you have a long-term condition or take timed medication.
  •     Wheelchairs: The Haram has wheelchairs and electric carts for the Mataf and Masa’a. Ask us for a hotel with a short, level walk.

For other dates through the year, see our umrah package for family options.

Ramadan Umrah Visa, Permits and Season Dates

A UK passport holder can enter for Ramadan Umrah on either a dedicated Umrah visa or the Saudi tourist eVisa. This season Saudi Arabia will only issue the visa once your hotel and ground transport are registered on Nusuk. We register those and submit the application; the decision to approve it rests with Saudi Arabia.

In practice, this means visas for last-ten-nights trips are usually issued in early February, and anyone hoping to arrive around Eid needs their visa issued before the 9 March deadline.

Umrah Permits in Ramadan

Your Umrah is performed under a permit issued through the Nusuk app. In 2025 the Ministry asked pilgrims to perform only one Umrah during the last ten days of Ramadan to ease crowding. Expect similar guidance in 2027, and check the Ministry’s announcements before you travel. Rawdah visits in Madinah are booked through Nusuk too, and slots are hard to get in Ramadan.

Ramadan guidance is often announced late. Before you fly, look at the latest GOV.UK travel advice for Saudi Arabia and announcements from the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

Hotels for Ramadan Umrah, Including 5-star Options

In Ramadan, walking time to the Haram matters more than anything else in a hotel. You may make the trip three or four times a day, often in crowds, so a 5-minute walk outside Ramadan can take 20 at Taraweeh.

4-star

Most 5-star hotels in Makkah sit in the Abraj al-Bait (Clock Tower) complex and the Jabal Omar area, a few minutes from the Haram, while in Madinah they line the central area around Masjid an-Nabawi. Your quote names each hotel and its walking distance before you pay.

Ramadan Umrah Packages from UK Airports

We arrange Ramadan flights from London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow to Jeddah or Madinah. Starting in Madinah and finishing in Makkah works well for the last ten nights, because you end your trip close to the Haram for the odd nights and Eid.

Most Popular Questions

Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on or around Monday 8 February 2027 and end with Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March 2027. These dates come from astronomical projections. Saudi Arabia confirms the start and end by moon sighting, usually the evening before.

Yes. Umrah can be performed at any point in Ramadan, and it is one of the busiest times of the year at Masjid al-Haram. You need a valid visa that allows Umrah, an Umrah permit issued through Nusuk, and accommodation booked through the Nusuk system before your visa is issued.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that Umrah in Ramadan is equal to Hajj in reward, as narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari (1863). Scholars explain that this refers to reward only: it does not replace the obligatory Hajj for someone who is able to perform it.

For reward, any time in Ramadan carries the same virtue. For worship, many people choose the last ten nights because Laylat al-Qadr is sought in them. For comfort and cost, the first ten days are usually calmer and cheaper. The right choice depends on your health, budget and what you want most from the trip.

Book as early as you can for the last ten nights, because rooms close to the Haram and Eid flights sell out first. The first and middle ten days usually have more choices later on. Nothing is held for you until we have confirmed the booking to you in writing.

Prices depend mainly on which part of Ramadan you travel in and the walking distance between your hotel and the Haram. The first ten days are normally the lowest-priced, and the last ten nights cost the most. Our packages start from £765 per person; contact us for a written quote with named hotels and flights.

Usually, yes. Many hotels close to the Haram sell the last ten nights as a fixed block, and flights around Eid fill early. Because the end of Ramadan depends on the moon sighting, your return date may fall on Eid day or the day after.

In 2025 the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah asked pilgrims to perform Umrah only once during the last ten days of Ramadan to reduce crowding, and permits are managed through Nusuk. Check the Ministry's current guidance for 1448 before you plan more than one Umrah.

No. Children who have not reached puberty are not required to fast. Plan their meals around your Suhoor and Iftar, keep water and snacks with you in the Haram, and give them rest in the afternoon if you are staying up for Taraweeh.

Yes. You can secure a Ramadan package with a deposit and spread the rest over monthly payments, with the balance due before travel. Confirm deposit amount and final payment date.
